On the ruins of the Berlin Walls and the Iron Curtains but also on the new fences, therapeutic couches in a new identities’ cabinets or in a modifying passports – CENTRALA waves the comics charts in colours of flags of all countries in the world with pride of initiative and humility of successor as a advocate of a Comics Culture.

Central Europe Comics Art CENTRALA is a project, which aims to present the power of comics in this part of world. Through a presentation of the most interesting initiatives, magazines, publications devoted to comics activity, Polish receiver will have a chance to become acquainted with a comics achievements of our Central European neighbours. Successive, periodical scenes of CENTRALA have a form of exhibitions and meetings with comics’ authors and critics from particular country. Each exhibition is thematically adapted to specific country. They are also organized around specific motives, heroes or issues. This kind of problem presentation of individual Central European „comicsographies” aims to show variety of forms and motives produced by comics’ art, which lasts over 100 years.

We interpret comics as an important and valuable source of knowledge about views and attitudes of contemporary communities and individuals to events, phenomenon and values of surrounding world. These views and attitudes seem to be particularly valuable because of their spontaneous legitimation (like in Zin’s publications) and conjunction of fantasy, caricature and documental distinctness closely related to this genre.
